Derreen was planted 120 years ago. The growth of exotic
plants from many parts of the world caused by the high
rainfall of Kerry gives one the impression of walking
through a tropical jungle.
The tree ferns from Australia grow side by side with
clumps of huge bamboos which contrast with the towering
conifers and the many brilliant coloured rhododendrons.
Though the garden is at its peak for three months in
the spring there ismuch to see at all times of the year.
The garden boasts unrivalled views of Kilmakilloge
Bay and the Caha Mountains.
